We Like Weird

March 22, 2010

Brian has had some interesting friends over the years.  He’s never been one to surround himself with a ton of friends but has had some great friendships through the years.

Before we were married and early in our married life he had a great friend who was a bit older than us and single.  Many people tried to fix this friend up and he always found something wrong with every girl he was dating.  He was seeking “Miss Perfect”.  Once he realized “Miss Perfect” didn’t exist he eventually found someone and is hopefully happily married.

When we moved to Forest Park, Brian quickly became friends with the man who lived across the street.  Never mind that we were young, twenty-somethings with no kids, and this man was a 70-something black man.  They became fast friends and remained close for many years.

We all loved our Mr. Price!

Several years ago Brian met another friend at work.  We’ll call him Bill (cause that’s his name).  Bill seems like a normal person.  He’s as nice as can be and would do anything for you.  He’s been a great friend to Brian.  Imagine my surprise when I discovered something new & unexpected about Bill.  Just take a look at what he carries to work and proudly displays on his desk each day:

Yes.  Oh, yes, it is.  A Scooby Doo lunchbox!  And yes, Brian took a picture for me!  Ha!  I’m not sure if Bill knows or not!

I told Brian he’s had some weird friendships through the years — the guy seeking “Miss Perfect”, a 75 year old black man, and now a dude with a Scooby Doo lunchbox.

That’s okay.  We like weird!

Then Brian says to me, “You’re one to talk!  You’ve got a whole Dr. Phil show in that group of friends of yours!”.

I’m sure he didn’t mean any offense to any of my wonderful friends.

Like I said…we like weird.

Awww… that picture of Brian and Mr. Price brought a tear to my eye. What a wonderful man he was.
