Vacation – Day 5

August 4, 2011

We were checking out of the hotel this day and thought we’d wait till around 9:30 or so to try to avoid some of the crazy downtown traffic.  Ha!  I think there is ALWAYS crazy downtown traffic, plus so many people walking that you’ve got to watch out for.  I do think it was a little better than going earlier though.  We ate the hotel again and then put in a call to get our car.  By the time we got our luggage down to the lobby and checked out our car was there waiting for us.  A couple of the valet guys asked where we were heading and told us how to get out of the city.  We didn’t really listen because we had Brian’s girlfriend, Lori (his GPS), guiding us on our journey.  Lori always gets us where we need to go….except when we’re leaving downtown Chicago!  Uh, oh!!  She had a rough time finding a signal as we tried to weave our way out of downtown.  We finally figured out where we needed to go and Lori got us back on track.  Whew!

We were heading west of downtown to a nearby suburb so the kids could play Magiquest.  We had never heard of Magiquest until last summer’s Myrtle Beach vacation and they loved it.  The Myrtle Beach location is an amazing two-story fantasy land where they kids are Magi seeking out clues and storing their collection in their wands.  I had to laugh when we were packing for this trip and I told them not to forget their wands.  Not something I thought I’d say when packing for a trip!  We weren’t real sure about this Magiquest location.  It’s in a mall and didn’t appear to offer as much as the other location.  I had planned 2 hours for playing (which would have been great at the MB location) but decided maybe we should just do 1 1/2 hours.  That was more than enough.  Had we never been to the other location we would have thought this was GREAT.  They still had fun playing but were ready to go when their time was up.

The next stop on my original plan was an outlet mall so that Tay & I could visit the Vera Bradley Outlet (if you know me, you know I love me some Vera!).  I decided we should skip this stop.  It was so stinkin’ hot that I hated to drive the extra distance to do an outdoor mall since we didn’t really know what they’d have to offer and if there would even be any good deals.  No one argued with this decision.  :)

We reprogrammed Lori to head to Lafayette, IN.  We were stopping there for the night so we could visit with my BFF and her boys.  I couldn’t wait!  Sarah & I have been friends for over 20 years (22 or so).  We usually see each other once a year (twice if we’re lucky).  We were lucky this year – she was at Kings Island one day and we went over to see her and now we were heading to her house!  We had an uneventful trip to Lafayette, got checked into our hotel, and then headed to her house.  One of her boys was at soccer camp so we visited for a while.  We had never seen her new house – simply beautiful!  Before picking Matt up we took a tour of her church, their school, and the church’s community center.  Very impressive!

We went to a late dinner and had a wonderful time visiting and laughing.  Sure wished they lived closer!

It was getting late so we said our good-byes and headed back to the hotel.  There must have been a party going on above us because it was very noisy until very late in the night.  Crazy!

So thankful for this little stop in Lafayette!
