Weekend Wrap-Up

August 20, 2012

A couple of weeks ago, Nick mentioned that he’d like to go bowling.  He told me this about 12:30 one night (while I was watching the olympics) so I did what any sane mom does when her kid mentions bowling at 12:30 in the morning.  I immediately went online and signed one child up for the “Kids Bowl Free” program (Nick is too old for the free bowling) and bought a family pass for the rest of us.  At 1:00 in the morning, I declared that we would be bowling AT LEAST four times before school started so we could get our money’s worth out of the family pass.  What I failed to consider in all the bowling excitement is that one of my children isn’t really a fan of bowling.  She was less that thrilled with the bowling situation (she was not awake at 1:00 in the morning to express her opinion on the matter).  And that’s why we found ourselves at the bowling alley on Friday afternoon.  It was our third time going (I think) so we still need to make it once more this week.  We’ve enjoyed it and even though Tay was against the whole idea, she’s turned out to be quite the bowler.  Usually the bowling alley isn’t very crowded in the afternoon but Friday must have been “bring your loud, whiney kid day”.  It was a lovely way to start the weekend.

Friday evening Tay had a friend over and we ordered pizza.  The girls spent the evening taking funny pictures of themselves and Tay did her friend’s hair (and it looked so cute!).  Good times.

Nick needed some highway driving practice so on Saturday he and Brian took a drive to Springfield and had lunch at Brian’s mom’s house.  They also had a nice visit with Brian’s Grandma.  When they got home we ordered Chinese take-out.  Yum-O!

Yesterday morning we went to church and then Brian and I spent the afternoon roaming around the flea market.  Last night Brian’s BFF came over and helped him move a futon from the basement to the sunroom.  Our sunroom furniture is falling apart and we want to start working on our basement so this seemed like a good solution to our sunroom seating needs.  We also cleaned and vacuumed the sunroom (which was WAY over-due!).  Tay and Charlie were hanging out with us while we were cleaning (although neither one of them offered to help!).  I found a tennis ball and tossed it for Charlie and something amazing happened!  He ran after it AND brought it back to me!  I’m not sure where he learned to do this.  Usually when I toss a toy it either scares him or he totally ignores it.  He did it a few times in the sunroom and then a couple of times outside.  Brian threw the ball once and it landed under our pear tree.  Charlie picked up a pear instead of the ball and decided that tasted much better than an old tennis ball.

Today I’m catching up on laundry, taking Tay to drop off her school supplies, and baking some cookies for Brian to take to work tomorrow.  We’re on the tail end of summer break around here.  School starts on Thursday.  We’ll talk more about that later.  We still have three days of summer break to enjoy first!
