So Long, Summer….Hello School

August 30, 2012

It’s official.  The lazy days of summer are long gone.  These are the days of 5:15 a.m. alarms, packed lunches, and homework.  I thought we were settling into the swing of our new routine until this morning.  Tay came downstairs at 7:00 and said “let’s go mom”.  There I was sitting in the chair reading some blogs like I didn’t have a care in the world.  Never mind the fact that her lunch was only half packed and it was time to walk out the door.  Oops!  Thankfully we leave plenty of time in the morning to get to school so I was able to throw her sandwich and water bottle in her bag and off we went.  Leaving even five minutes later than planned gets us into a whole lot more traffic than I care to deal with.  Unfortunately, this afternoon Tay informed me that she liked the time we got to school this morning better than our normal arrival time.

I’m getting ahead of myself here.  Let’s back up and revisit those wonderful lazy days of summer, shall we?  We started school last Thursday so we enjoyed the last three days of summer.  We slept in, ate out, went bowling and visited a little sweet shop for chocolate covered twinkies.  Oh how I miss the days of sleeping in and chocolate covered twinkies.  Now that I think about it, we only bought two of those and no one even offered me a taste.  Huh.

We stopped by the schools to drop off supplies and walk the kids’ schedules.  Nick wouldn’t let me take any pictures but Tay posed for this cute shot…

We’ve officially been in school for one week now and thankfully we’re off to a good start.  Nick was not thrilled about posing for pictures but I reminded him that he only had two more first days of high school and he agreed to a picture.

I guess I should have tried to get him to agree to a smile.

Someone else likes getting her picture taken.

We finished up the first day of school with our traditional trip to Sonic.

Nick’s school starts a little later this year so he & Brian are sleeping in a bit longer than last year.  Truthfully the 5:15 a.m. wake-up hasn’t been that horrible.  We seem to be getting into the groove (minus this morning) and it helps that both kids are happy with school, their teachers, and their friends.  After one week Nick’s favorites are Physics and Computer Science.  Tay like history the best.  She’s studying American History so we told her she could probably use some of what she learned on our Washington D.C. trip this summer to help her with this class.  She informed us that she pretty much blocked out that week of her life.

So that’s how the end of summer & first week of school went around here.  And now we’re all looking forward to a three-day-weekend!

P.S.  Charlie thinks school days are exhausting!
